Our Team


Patricia N. E. Roberson, PhD

Lab Director

Dr. Roberson is faculty in the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee. When she is not obsessively watching romcoms or the latest period drama, she teaches graduate statistic courses and leads a team of undergraduate research students from psychology and nursing. Her research focuses on how marriages and families impact health for low-income and rural populations. Ongoing projects include the role of these close relationships on diabetes management for families in rural Appalachia and how to improve the close relationships for pain management among breast cancer patients living in Appalachia.


Holly is a junior at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Pre-health professions. She plans to attend PA school after graduation. Holly is an active volunteer with Clinic Vols and is a member of the UTK Physicians Assistant Student Association. She is also an Undergraduate Learning Assistant in an Anatomy lab on campus. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family and cheering on the Vols.

Kendall graduated with a degree in Neuroscience and minored in Biology. She plans to attend medical school in hopes of providing healthcare to underserved communities. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and playing Rocky Top on the banjo.

Laney Puhalla is a University of Tennessee graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. During her time at UT, she stayed busy as the feature twirler for the Pride of the Southland Marching Band, a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, First-Year Council, and Boss Dance Society—all while working as an emergency room medical scribe. Since graduating, Laney has dived deeper into research and gained hands-on experience shadowing in various departments at UTMCK. She also co-owns Studio Orange Baton and Dance in Knoxville, TN, where she shares her love of baton with the next generation. She recently applied to graduate school to pursue a master’s in pathology assistance and is excited to see where this next chapter takes her.
When she’s not teaching or in the lab, you’ll likely find Laney reading, hanging out with friends, or attempting to conquer the New York Times games.

Kylie is a sophomore at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, majoring in Nursing with hopes of being a NICU or an ER nurse. She has worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Austin, Texas. She is a part of VOLthon on campus and works with the local YWCA. Outside of school, she works as a server and enjoys spending time with my family and friends.

Jodi is a junior at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Pre-Health Professions. She is currently a part of Clinic Vols, where she volunteers in the nurse’s office at an elementary school. She has also previously volunteered with Remote Area Medical. After graduation, she plans on attending medical school and hopes to pursue a career as a radiologist. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family.

 Nicholas is a sophomore at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Spanish. After earning his undergraduate degree, he hopes to attend medical school with the hopes of becoming a general practitioner. Outside of school, he enjoys exercising with family and friends and trying new cooking recipes. 

Kendl is a Junior at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Pre-Health Professions. She is currently a part of MedLife and Sigma Phi Lambda on campus. After graduating, she aspires to attend medical school in hopes of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Outside of school she works as an ER Tech and enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching hockey, and cheering on the Vols. 

Lily is a senior at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Public Health. She is the current Arts & Culture Committee President for the Campus Event Board. She works as a nurse technician at UT Medical Center. She volunteers at the Children’s Hospital as a child life volunteer and at Spring Hill Elementary as an N.E.A.T. educator. After completing her undergraduate degree, she aspires to attend a physician assistant program. In her free time, she enjoys baking treats for her friends.

I am a senior at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Psychology. I regularly volunteer for UTK with campus events and for local Knoxville organizations. After completing my undergraduate degree, I hope to attend graduate school. I aspire to become a Doctor of Psychology to practice clinical psychology and help others be the best they can be. I am very passionate about music, psychology, neuroscience, and sports.

Jackson is a junior majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Psychology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is an active member of many organizations on campus, including Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, and a Teaching Assistant for a biology course at UTK. After completing his undergraduate degree, he plans on attending medical school. In his free time, Jackson enjoys exploring and listening to new music, experiencing new things with his friends, and loves philosophical theories.

Tallulah is currently a junior at UTK majoring in Neuroscience. She is passionate about women’s health and plans to attend medical school after graduation with hopes of becoming an obstetric gynecologist. She is an active member of the UTK Clinic Vols Club, where she volunteers with elementary school nurses. Off-campus, she also enjoys volunteering with Remote Area Medical, providing basic healthcare for underprivileged communities around Knoxville. In her free time, she loves reading, spending time with friends, and working in her home garden.

Hana is a Senior at the University of Tennessee, double majoring in both Neuroscience and Psychology with an Honors Concentration. She is the President of the Muslim Student Association and is involved with many clubs on campus including Nu Rho Psi, The Companionship Project, Advancement of Neuroscience UTK, PsychVOLogy, Clinic Vols, and Remote Area Medical. She works as an intern at the Genesis Neuroscience Clinic and as a Certified Crisis Counselor for the Contact Care Line and volunteers at Shifa Medical Clinic. She aspires to continue her education in hopes of pursuing work in Clinical Health Psychology. In her free time, she loves to cook and bake, spend time outdoors, and spend time with family.

Diana is a third year student at UTK studying Psychology on a pre-med track. She is double minoring in Leadership and Pre-health. Diana is passionate about mental health awareness and takes any opportunity she can to learn about processes in the medical field. Her favorite part of human psychology is our innate curiosity that pushes us to theorize and explore answers to our questions. She hopes to put her own curiosity to use and is excited for all the possibilities that are yet to come.

Presley is a junior at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Neuroscience with an Honors concentration. She is currently President of the Undergraduate Research Ambassadors and Research Editor of the PURSUIT Undergraduate Research Journal at UTK. Following graduation, Presley aspires to attend medical school and pursue her M.D. One fun fact about her is she studied abroad in Italy this past summer! It was the best experience of her life, and she feels it made her a more well-rounded individual.

Dimara is a senior at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Pre-health. She is currently a certified yoga teacher who teaches at TRECS. She has worked as a physical therapy technician at multiple locations including Watauga Orthopedics and Benchmark Physical Therapy. She plans to attend physical therapy school post-grad. In her free time she enjoys going to Tennessee football games and spending time with her dogs. 

Maya is a junior at the University of Tennessee who is majoring in neuroscience with a minor in Pre-Health Professions, and her goal is to pursue medical school after undergraduate school. On campus, she is a part of Clinic Vols, Spanish Club, and Chi Omega. Maya spends time volunteering with Remote Area Medical, Make-A-Wish, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, and the animal shelter. In her free time, she love to spend time with my friends, go on walks, and love to travel. 

John is a sophomore at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Pre-Health Professions. Last summer, he worked as an orderly at a local hospital and shadowed surgeons of various specialties. He is involved with RUF, a member of the Engineers in Medicine Society, and is the captain of an intramural softball team. Last summer, he worked as an orderly at a local hospital and shadowed surgeons of various specialties Professionally, he intends to become a Trauma surgeon in the United States Army. In his free time, he enjoys lifting weights, reading, hiking, and spending time with friends.

Ethan is a senior at the University of Tennessee pursuing a degree in Psychology. His experience is filled with an impressive list of internships, studies, and volunteer experiences that have created academic excellence. While internships and studies have shaped his educational journey, volunteer work has been an integral part of Ethan’s life. He is a member of the University of Tennessee Senior Impact Council and Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology. With a passion for learning and a desire to make a positive impact, he looks forward to participating in the Healthy Families Research project.

Msgana is in her fifth year here at UT pursuing my masters in philosophy with a focus on bioethics. As she finishes out her last year of collegiate athletics, she is working on a masters thesis that will highlight the underrepresentation of minorities in medicine/clinical settings. Msgana is also a teaching assistant for Philosophy 101.
